N.B. teams win at U15 hoops

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Both the New Brunswick boys and girls teams came up with wins yesterday at the Canadian under-15 basketball championships here.

Caleb Dow and James Hicks, both of Moncton, each poured in 16 points leading the New Brunswick boys to a 119-40 thumping of Yukon.

Hicks also added nine rebounds and six assists in the victory. Ritchie Wilkins of Fredericton added 14 points and Adam Spurrell of Rothesay chipped in with 12 for New Brunswick, which led 68-27 at halftime.

New Brunswick (2-1) was to play B.C. in a late game last night.

Meanwhile, the New Brunswick girls were 66-54 winners over Manitoba last night.

New Brunswick received a huge game from Fredericton's Brittany Gilliss, who led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Vanessa Pickard of Riverview contributed 18 points and eight rebounds while Samantha Wilson of Woodstock had 12 points.

New Brunswick, which finished the round robin with a 2-2 record, led 43-19 at the break.

Boys and girls classification games are scheduled for today, followed by semifinals tonight. Championship games will be played tomorrow.
