The closure of Moncton's Chrysler parts distribution centre will see 11 people lose their jobs.

It was publicly announced last week that the Chrysler LLC parts distribution centre (formerly Daimler Chrysler Canada Inc.) located at 615 St. George Blvd., would close effective Nov. 30.

Mary Gauthier, senior manager of corporate communication for Chrysler Canada, confirmed yesterday that 11 employees will be affected by the closure.

She didn't elaborate whether or not the employees would be offered other opportunities in different locations with the company.

"We will find really socially responsible solutions for these employees but we are really trying to maintain the privacy of our people, so we won't be providing any details," she said.

The company stated that the decision to close the distribution centre was made in Chrysler's efforts to find more 'operational efficiency' and to remain globally competitive.

The Chrysler facility will be the last of four industry facilities to leave Saint George Boulevard, as Goodyear, GM and Firestone have all formerly had operations centres in the area.
