Make Metro Centre truly flexible and multi-purpose

Letter of the day

To The Editor:
Planning a multi-purpose facility for the future in Moncton should include an increase in the amount of space between seating for comfort and safety and the proposed number of seats should be set at 20,000 instead of 15,000.
The Coliseum's seating was limiting long before the facility's lifespan was reached.
I would recommend a Multi-Flex Stadium built near the Trans-Canada Highway for visibility and ease of access. But since council has its mind set for the facility in the downtown, I would recommend an area that has ample room to accommodate parking and the streets should be wide enough for the increased traffic volume.
The building would house other tenants surrounding the interior and exterior of this well planned establishment. Television, radio and retail can be a vital aspect to reduce the cost of maintaining this business by leasing out space. We would love to have our own television station broadcasting out of this province for a change.
Green technology can be used to help alleviate costs. The Petitcodiac River is cool in the summer and can be used to help cool the building. A large solarium can be added to this building as a green space in the winter for the public (botanical gardens) and with added solar and the use of the sun to heat water to help maintain a comfortable temperature for the building during the winter.
Interior walls like a portion of the seating would move to create a segmented facility if more than one event is being held that does not require all the seating. Each area can have 5,000 of seating if divided in four parts and can increase this total by eliminating a wall. This 5,000 can be decreased with the seats retracted.
This facility would house technology that would allow a football game to be played and aired with ease. It will also have baffles that would come down from the ceiling to create the best acoustics. Seating would be arranged for best viewing.
The walls would be made of materials that would absorb sound so four events can take place without each affecting the other.
If the city wants a gem in the city core it must plan and use technology to map out a multi-flex without the bugs.
Computer generated working design is the best way to do this and the city needs the professionals that understand the main industries of attraction and to create a facility that is inexpensive to operate.

Hey maybe they should build it up by Magnetic Hill; building the facility into the hill would reduce heating costs as only the entrance would be exposed to the elements facing south to take advantage of the sun.
Seriously, a 15,000 seating capacity would suit Moncton for years to come. However design the building for easy expansion in the future!!
Please stay away from downtown. The road accesses and parking will never be adequate.
