Tannery Court, a non-profit housing project built by Atlantic People's Housing Ltd., recently received this year's Energy Efficient Community Award from the New Brunswick Homebuilders Association.

The three-storey apartment building was constructed at the corner of High and Gordon streets and includes 40 one-bedroom units and completed in January of 2006. It was designed to provide affordable housing for non-elderly singles.

Tannery Court was built according to stringent R-2000 standards for air tightness using the latest in energy efficient doors, windows, electrical boxes, insulating materials and air circulation system. It is wheelchair accessible and equipped with a security system, fencing and coin-operated laundry facilities on all three floors.

Several members of the homebuilders association participated in the project.
