
Aquaculture industry attends Chile event

Representatives from New Brunswick's aquaculture industry are in Chile this week to participate in one of the world's largest aquaculture trade shows.
The Aqua Sur 2008 attracts people in the aquaculture industry from more than 40 countries. Delegates from Atlantic Canada will explore potential opportunities within the Chilean market. The trade mission is being supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency to the tune of $122,000.
Delegates from this province include the N.B. Salmon Growers Association, Go Deep International, Future Nets Ltd., the Research and Productivity Council and Cooke Acquaculture. There are also representatives from Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Agriculture summit April 3-4 in Fredericton
The provincial government will host more than 150 people from all sectors of the agriculture and agri-food agency during the New Brunswick Agriculture Summit in Fredericton April 3-4.
During recent meetings with the province, industry leaders said they were concerned about such issues as marketing, education, training, research and development, land quality, environment and public awareness.
The agriculture and agri-food industry is diverse in New Brunswick, combining over 2,700 farms with 100 processing plants to produce close to $1.2 billion worth of agri-food and beverage products.

France offers bursaries to local students
