A new network for French businesswomen from across the country will be launched today in Miramichi.

The Réseau des femmes d'affaires francophones du Canada is the first and only Canadian networking platform for Francophone women, says the Conseil économique du N.-B. (CENB) which oversees the network.

The virtual network, accessible online as of this morning at www.femmesdaffaires.ca, will allow French-speaking women in business to share ideas and stories from one coast of Canada to the other, says Anne Hébert, a member of the network's management committee and executive director of CENB.

The network arises out of the recommendations made by participants in the Forum des femmes d'affaires francophones du Canada, held last year in Moncton.

Hébert says while there are many small groups around the country for French-speaking businesswomen, there wasn't one national body.

She says the more people you know, the more experiences you can draw on.

Hébert also says in setting up the Réseau, she has noticed how businesswomen and businessmen interact is different, which means this new network could have huge benefits for women in business.

Hébert says the group is open even to French-speaking women who are interested in business but not necessarily working in the business world. Membership is $60 per year. Anyone can visit the new website, but there are members-only sections.

This virtual network will be announced at a training session for business women organized by the New Brunswick Association of Community Business Development Corporations at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel at noon. Over 100 participants are expected to attend the talk by Lise Cardinal, a networking specialist and author of various books on business strategies.

Cost to attend today's event, which takes place at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel, 1809 Water St., Miramichi and includes lunch, is $30. The event takes place at noon.

For more information or to sign on to the network, visit www.femmesdaffaires.ca or call 1-800-561-4446.
