The 24-room special care home is located on Jerry Street in Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH - Hillsborough Mayor Donna Bennett is an outstanding promoter of her village and she has another reason to be proud.
The Fundy Royal Manor, a state-of-the-art special care home with 24 private rooms, will open on 24 Jerry St., just off Academy Street in the heart of the village, in mid-November and the mayor could not be more pleased.
"This is great news for our community because there is such a big need for this type of facility," Bennett said yesterday.
"We have a lot of seniors in the village and many of them are in need of that next step of care. It's good for them because they remain in familiar surroundings and it's good for their families who won't have to travel far to see them.
"It's a beautiful facility and we're happy to have it in Hillsborough."
Proprietor Jerry Wilson said half of the home's 24 rooms have been filled, but he expects the others to be taken soon.
"I grew up in this area, so I know there's a great need," Wilson said. "I really wanted to give something back to this area. It has always been a special place with special people and I wanted to treat them properly."
Mayor Bennett said she's had a positive working relationship with Wilson, noting he's already contributed to the village's Neighbourhood Watch program.
"He's very community-minded and we can tell he wants to help the village," the mayor said. "He deserves a lot of credit for this and we thank him for it."
Each of the home's 192 square-foot private rooms will feature a bed, full closet, cable television and telephone hook-ups, dresser, night stand and chair. Each room will also have its own private two-piece bath.
The home, designed by Ron Allain of Moncton, also has a living room with sofas and chairs to seat 20 and a large flat screen TV. Games, card tables and a reading area in front of a fireplace will also accent the living room. There will also be a Wii console for residents who want to play interactive games.
The dining room, which also has a fireplace, will seat 40. There will also be a hair salon on site and a foot care specialist will make frequent visits.
"We will meet all of the residents needs with around-the-clock care (including an RNA on staff at all times) and an experienced staff that will make them feel comfortable," Wilson said.
"Our staff will be welcoming. Many of them are coming from other homes in the Moncton area to work in Hillsborough. They know how important it is to treat the residents with care and respect."
Wilson expects the home to employ 15 people.
