The slick chefs at the Moncton location of East Side Mario's recently picked up first prize in the restaurant chain's national Pasta Challenge competition.

Orecchiette Genovese Alfredo, a unique, authentic pasta dish created by the East Side Mario's Moncton culinary team was chosen as the Grand Winner of the Pasta Challenge -- a national culinary event that saw the chefs of East Side Mario's restaurants across the country competing against each other to create a winning signature pasta. It will eventually be placed on the chain's national menu.

The Moncton restaurant was among 10 from across the country who made it through the selection process to the national finals in Niagara Falls.

The five-month Challenge ended with the Moncton team of chef Jeff Arsenault and cook Tara Tobin declared winners for their creation. Orechhiette Genovese Alfredo features sautéed chicken, roasted red peppers, button mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil in a pesto Alfredo sauce.

"The Moncton team created a unique pasta with a distinctive noodle that is simply delicious. While we were very impressed with all of the signature pastas -- and there were some truly excellent creations -- Tara Tobin and Jeff Arsenault's Orecchiette Genovese Alfredo stood out as a top quality dish, captured the essence of the East Side Mario's brand and received rave reviews during the Menu Lab," said Bernie Dyer, senior vice president of East Side Mario's.

East Side Mario's has 110 locations across Canada.
