Moosehead Breweries chairman Derek Oland was among the guests this week at a reception for the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise, a national association of family-owned businesses.

The association is looking for people who run family businesses interested in starting a chapter in Metro Moncton. The reception was hosted by KPMG at Fox Creek Golf Club and attracted about 30 people. Among the speakers was Ian Wilson of Wilson Fuels.

Oland, executive-chairman of Moosehead Breweries, spoke about the company's family business and the challenges it has faced through the years. He said family business is an important component of the New Brunswick economy.

One of the unique aspects of the association is its Peer Advisory Groups which meet once monthly to provide peer support to one another with respect to their issues in family business.

Additional meetings are planned for early January to determine if there is sufficient interest by family business to found the new chapter. If anyone is interested in hearing more about establishing a CAFE chapter in New Brunswick, they can contact Luann Jones-Foster at KPMG or Lawrence Barns at CAFE. Bouctouche gets honourable mention at travel awards

The Town of Bouctouche didn't win but got an honourable mention in the Best Destination category at this year's Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards organized by responsibletravel.com.

The awards were presented at a ceremony in London earlier this month.

The judges said: "Bouctouche has demonstrated that Tourism can be used to breathe new life into a community and its endangered Acadian culture. Over the past 12 years, the community has come together to build a thriving new economy based on sustainable tourism following the collapse of its traditional livelihood of fishing."

Bouctouche Mayor Aldéo Saulnier was thrilled with the mention.

"It shows when a community works together, it can achieve great successes. The town of Bouctouche did not win the award, however being highly commended (finalist) is a great honour and the community should be proud of its accomplishments."
