WICKHAM - Three children who spent a night missing in the woods this weekend, about 60 kilometres (37 miles) west of Sussex, were found safe and sound early Monday.

A 13-year-old girl and two males aged 10 and 14 were first reported missing in the Wickham area shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday. Police say the children first entered a wooded area behind a residence on Route 705 and were found about 14 hours later at 7:30 a.m. Monday.

District 3 RCMP Cpl. Phil Oliver said the children didn't wander too far.

"It was in a relative area of where it was indicated they went into the wooden area," he said. "They simply got disoriented."

At least 12 people including RCMP officers, the volunteer Fundy Ground Search and Rescue team and the RCMP Police Dog Service were involved in the search. Rain did fall in the early morning period and temperatures were cool. The children were taken to the Sussex Health Centre after they were found and released soon after.

"They were looked over and there were no injuries whatsoever," said Oliver.
