I found this spider in the garden on Sept. 10. It had constructed its web between a crocosmia stalk and a squash leaf. This was a first sighting for me, although I gather this variety is fairly common. – Marianne Goodfellow, South EskMarianne is correct. This spider, the black and yellow garden spider, is now a common sight in gardens and old field habitat across New Brunswick. However, this was not always the case. This species was relatively uncommon here 30 years ago. The female, shown in the photo, is much larger than the male. – Don McAlpine
