The Moncton Music Teachers' Association is presenting a recital Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Mount Royal United Church in Moncton in celebration of Canada Music Week Nov. 16-22.

The free concert will feature students of association members performing works of Canadian composers and special guest vocalist Rebecca Moore who will perform works by Debussy, Jerry Bock and Canadian composer Robert Flemming.

The recital begins at 2 p.m.

Donations will be accepted towards prizes for the Greater Moncton Music Festival and scholarships for graduates pursuing music studies.

Canada Music Week is a legacy of the late Ernest W. Freeborn, a Moncton teacher, performer and promoter of music who suggested the idea. The Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Association launched the initiative in 1960 to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

The week focuses public attention on the importance of Canadian music and music in general, helps introduce contemporary music to Canadian students to stimulate a keener appreciation and understanding of music, encourages music teachers to broaden their knowledge of Canadian works and helps support Canadian composers and performers.
