Luc Dugas of Caraquet certainly has talent. His style involves mixing paintbrush strokes with an airbrush technique, creating life-like paintings that trick and please the eye.

Dugas was around 12-years-old when he realized his artistic talent, but it wasn’t until he was in Grade 12 that he began to take it seriously.

That was back in 1987.

He later took a trip to Prince Edward Island and discovered the airbrushing technique. Dugas mastered this new technique by teaching himself with books and videos on the subject.

Starting out with T-shirts, motorcycles, and cars, Dugas later moved on in 2002 to mix airbrushing with painting.

Now he has perfected the technique, creating artwork with a true sense of depth.

Dugas’ paintings can make the viewer think that, on first glance, they are looking at a photograph.

His manipulation of colours, light, shadows, and the airbrush technique create paintings that are truly realistic.

Dugas’ work is on display in the Assumption Gallery until Friday, Jan. 2. The gallery is just inside the doors of Assumption Place on 770 Main St. and is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

n Art Scene appears each Friday in Life & Times.
