Want proof?

Mingle through 33,000 people on a big hill in Moncton's north end and ask around.

We did, and the answers were interesting to say the least.

Some answers were obvious: Bruce Springsteen, U2, Coldplay and Tom Petty were among the top names people mentioned when asked who they wanted to see play Magnetic Hill next now that we've hosted Bon Jovi, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Tim McGraw and others.

But other fans wanted to see Moncton host another country music show.

Brad Wells, 20, from Halifax, says he goes to every major country show that hits the east coast of Canada, and he wants to see Toby Keith and Rascal Flatts make their way to Moncton sometime soon.

In fact, Rascal Flatts was a name that popped up several times yesterday when fans were asked about future Magnetic Hill Music Festival events.

Kenny Chesney was another country superstar fans mentioned.

Still others are looking for something a little heavier to rock Magnetic Hill.

Metallica, Iron Maiden or "any metal band really" was the response of one music fan.

Rod Stewart and Bob Dylan were added to the list as well to make things even more varied.

"I would love to see Tom Petty," says Jessica Gaudet, 25, of Riverview. "He has such a range of music, he'd almost appeal to anyone."

Her friend Sarah Cormier, also of Riverview, mentioned Coldplay and Fleetwood Mac as acts she wants to see in Moncton.

The folks at C103 weighed in on the show as well, with dedicated Rush fan Andrew Stewart, promotions director, saying he'd love to see his favourite band play the Hill.

Stewart also suggested U2, saying they would likely be just as big as AC/DC for Metro music fans.

Sarah Wiseman, who also works in promotions for C103 and XL96, added her voice to the many who mentioned Rascal Flatts as a potential concert.

Friends in large groups were debating who they really wanted to see in Moncton next year and in further years.

"Coldplay, that's who I'd like to see," says Charlene Poirier, 22, of Moncton, while her friend Jessica Johnson, 24, added Metallica to the list of fan favourites.

"I'd pay good money to see Metallica," she said.

And younger friends have something else in mind.

"I need the Jonas Brothers," Brittany Sullivan, 15, said.

Meanwhile, some fans were stumped. Krista Burtt is pleased with what she's already seen here.

With Bon Jovi, KISS and AC/DC all hitting the Maritimes this summer, she said, "For my kind of music, everybody's come."

Dana Wallace of Shubenacadie, N.S. took a few minutes to chat about his musical hero.

He has seen Bruce Springsteen five times, including dates in The Boss's home state of New Jersey and in Montreal.

"Bruce Springsteen," he says when asked who he wants to see on Magnetic Hill. "That would be the ultimate show for me and my family."

Wallace was not alone in that. Several people mentioned Springsteen, who Wallace called "a poet."

What will we actually see next year? It's perhaps a little early to speculate too much with AC/DC's show still over a month away, and KISS and Paul McCartney still slated for concerts coming up in Halifax.

But hey, we can dream, can't we?

Definitely, U2 or Springsteen. Eventually, Moncton or Halifax HAS to land U2. They are the next big fish to catch. It may be possible next year as long as U2 have somewhat of a different stage show for next year as the Hill probably couldn't accomodate it...seriously!

Springsteen is the consumate showman and will have you eating out of the palm of his hand. Once he starts he doesn't stop and he puts on a 2 hour and 40 minute show. The guy is drenched in sweat after his show because he puts out so much energy onstage.

Although it's highly unlikely at this juncture, due to their indefinite hiatus from performing, I'd like to see The Red Hot Chili Peppers play an Atlantic Canada venue. I figure if Bon Jovi and the Eagles can lore 30 000 people to Magnetic Hill the Peppers can bring in similar or even greater numbers because they've managed to remain conventional by evolving and adapting to the market. They are every bit as hip and innovative as they were back in the early 80's when they first exploded on the alternative rock scene. I think they'd but on one hell of a show and I'd pay good money to see em'.
