Shediac promising to spread the blues

With the Backstreet Boys playing the Coliseum Aug. 1 and the Eagles rocking Magnetic Hill Aug. 2, it might seem like the Metro Moncton area already has it's full share of concerts planned for the long weekend, but organizers of the Shediac Blues Festival say there's one more event they'd like music lovers to keep in mind.
The festival's big event will be a concert the evening of Sunday, Aug. 3, featuring performers from all across Canada.
Bill Vance, one of the event's organizers, says the blues festival will bring in people who love the blues and who are attracted to a more intimate setting.
"We know the area will be filled with music lovers, tourists and cottagers and we're planning an incredible evening of music that caters to them," he says.
The lineup includes Matt Anderson, a New Brunswick native returning from a European Tour, The Twisters, a Juno-nominated Vancouver band, and the Downtown Blues Band, a Fredericton group organizers say will have the crowd dancing all night. Tickets $10 each and there will be some free concerts offered with regional artists, including Moncton's Déja Blues and Fredericton's Keith Hallett.
According to Bill, there will also be a mix of old fashioned blues and high energy music to keep people on their feet.
Tickets are on sale now in Shediac at the Jean Coutu Pharmacy and Petro-Canada.
