CHARLOTTETOWN - A new sculpture of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister, will be gracing downtown Charlottetown by next summer.

Tourism Charlottetown, in partnership with several other organizations, has put out a request for proposals for artists to create a three-dimensional, life-size bronze sculpture of the famous politician.

Kim Green, the chief executive of Tourism Charlottetown, says Macdonald was chosen for the sculpture because "he was central in forming Canada" and was a key player at the 1864 Charlottetown conference.
