Legendary rock group KISS might be on its way to the east coast of Canada.

KISS co-founder and bassist Gene Simmons was quoted this week by news media saying a short summer tour was planned for the rock icons next summer, including a date in Halifax.

"I know Halifax is one," Simmons said.

Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly said yesterday that he knows a handful of promoters are working on trying to land various acts for the city, and KISS's name had come up, but he couldn't say anymore than that.

He said a KISS show would certainly be a highlight for the city though.

Shane Porter, major events and concerts co-ordinator for the City of Moncton, wouldn't comment on whether or not a KISS show could be in Moncton's future.

All he would say is that several promoters are working on different potential concerts for Moncton next year.

One might say KISS owes the east coast some dates.

The band played here in 1976 on April 18 (Moncton) and April 19 (Halifax), and in 1977 on July 8 (Halifax) and July 9 (Moncton).

The band was due to return for shows Oct. 21-23 in 1990 in Sydney, Halifax and Moncton, but cancelled when guitarist Paul Stanley injured himself on tour.
