A campaign launched over the holidays to help people cope with winter heating costs will continue until the middle of January to raise additional money, said YMCA of Greater Moncton spokesman Darrell Vautour.

The Heating up the Holidays Program raised the equivalent of 7,200 litres of home heating oil, which was donated to 20 families trying to cope with the rising cost of oil.

"Donations made to program come at a crucial time, when many people in need find themselves with nowhere else to turn. We need people to continue their donations because we still have lots of people that are left out in the cold," said Vautour, community outreach worker at the YMCA Moncton's Reconnect Program.

Companies and individuals wanting to help can donate money at any RBC Royal Bank branch in Southeastern New Brunswick or at the YMCA of Greater Moncton before Jan. 16.

The program is a partnership between YMCA of Greater Moncton, RBC Royal Bank, Co-Op Fuels and the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick Region Inc.

People requiring help heating their homes this winter should contact the Reconnect Program at 856-4362.
