SPRINGHILL - Correctional officers have intercepted another drug shipment into the medium security prison in Springhill.

Drugs, including 44.2 grams of marijuana, 7.2 grams of ecstacy, 12 100 mg MS Contin pills and five grams of cocaine, were confiscated during a routine search of the prison's visiting area on Sunday.

The institutional value of the drugs is estimated at approximately $7,600.

Shannon Oickle, chief of administration at the prison, said the latest seizure if further proof that it's becoming more difficult to smuggle illegal items into the institution that houses 441 inmates.

Oickle said much of the credit has to go to staff who are being diligent when it comes to stopping the flow of drugs into the prison.

"It's really the good work of our staff in their searching. We have good tools in place in terms of our search plan, drug dogs and ion scan," she said.

In this latest case, the drugs were not found on a person, but in the visiting area.

"We do routine searches of the buildings as well as persons. That's part of our daily job here," she said.

Good reason kids love jail, much drugs available, I know,I personally know someone who just came out recently from Springhill after serving a 3 yr sentence, and this person told me stories of what goes on in prison.I know why criminals like going there,it home away from home, only missing the sun and outdoors, and yet you can go out for work under supervision.Other than being boring at time the rest is not so bad apparently. If your lazy and don't want to work, jail is the place I guess, all free,x-cept drugs of course which sells for 5 times the street value. They should have dogs in prison to detect drugs on visitors, that would put a dent on smuggling and much cheaper than having 3 or 4 guards.
