The site is currently in the running for a spot among the new top seven wonders of the world

Just as supporters long suspected, the Bay of Fundy is Canada's top natural wonder and a definite contender for a spot on the list of the new seven wonders of the world.
The Bay of Fundy has been declared Canada's representative in the New7Wonders International Nature Competition after Alberta's Dinosaur Provincial Park failed to meet all of the established criteria for the competition.
It's was an unexpected turn of events after the Bay of Fundy had placed second in the first round of voting earlier this year.
The New7Wonders of Nature organization, based in Brussels, confirmed the change this week.
This decision was welcome news for the Bay of Fundy's supporters and tourism operators.
"We were honoured by the incredible number of votes the Bay of Fundy received in the first round of the contest," said Terri McCulloch, manager of Fundy Tourism in Parrsboro, N.S.
"We are very passionate about the Bay of Fundy and believe it is truly a beautiful wonder of nature. We are privileged to represent Canada and we hope everyone will be as enthusiastic again and vote for the Bay of Fundy," he added. The race is on to get as many votes for the natural wonder in by July 7 for this next stage.
"We only have a few weeks left in this phase of the contest so every vote is important and interested voters can go to Votemyfundy.com. We are really excited to be back in the running and we hope we can succeed in getting Canada's Bay of Fundy into the next international phase of the campaign," McCulloch said.
An independent committee will begin the task of short-listing the top 77 international sites after July 7, reducing the number to 21 sites for the fourth and final stage, before the selection of the top seven new wonders of nature.
The top 21 sites will be part of a 2010 New7Wonders world tour, which will focus tremendous international attention on these natural wonders.
The Bay of Fundy is best known for having the highest tides in the world as well as being the summer feeding area for half of the world's population of endangered North Atlantic Right whales and 12 other species of whales. It's also home to the world's most complete fossil record of the Coal Age, dating to 300 million years ago, and the world's oldest reptiles and Canada's oldest dinosaurs, Bay of Fundy supporters point out.
The United Nations group UNESCO has recognized the upper bay area as a biosphere reserve and Nova Scotia's Joggins Fossil Cliffs as a world heritage site.
Bay of Fundy Tourism is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise the profile of the Bay of Fundy as a Canadian nature tourism icon and has the support of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia tourism and heritage departments along with regional development and tourism associations, municipalities and tourism businesses.
The New7Wonders Foundation is a non-profit organization created in 2001 by the Swiss-born Canadian filmmaker, author and adventurer Bernard Weber to raise public awareness to and help protect the world's natural heritage sites.
The winners of the man-made wonders of the world were announced in 2007 followed by the launch of the current campaign to name the top seven natural wonders.
