Atlantic Nationals holding event at River Glade Speedway July 12

Metro Moncton get ready to start your engines.
As the finale of the ninth annual Atlantic Nationals, which rolls into Metro next week, the River Glade Speedway will host its fifth annual Burnout Blitz.
"It's a fundraising event that Herman Berry and boys at River Glade Speedway put on," says Atlantic Nationals chairman Bill Doherty. "They've raised money for things like The Friends of the Moncton Hospital in the past. This year the funds are going toward The Children's Wish Foundation."
The Burnout Blitz got its start in 2005, the year after some illegal drag racing took place during the Atlantic Nationals. After that, a strict no burnout rule was introduced. At the time, Doherty said anybody who disobeyed those rules would take away from the viability of the event,
The Burnout Blitz has helped satisfy the craving for the smell of burnt rubber in a controlled environment. It will feature cars showing just how fast, hard and loud they can be, while raising money for a great cause.
Drivers who want to burn their tires out on the track will pay $10 and spectators will pay $5.
The Atlantic Nationals begins at 8 a.m. on July 9 continue through to July 12. The Burnout Blitz will be the only chance for those who can't get enough of the noise of squealing tires.
River Glade Speedway is located on the Homestead Road, west of Moncton.
"River Glade is the ideal location," says Doherty. "It's got the facilities, the grandstands, the canteen, and we hope to take that type of behaviour out of town."
