Slayer bassist to undergo emergency back surgery today

This Sunday's tour-opening concert in Moncton by heavy metal groups Megadeth and Slayer has been postponed as Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya is having emergency back surgery in Texas today.
Gillette Entertainment Group, promoters of the Canadian Carnage Tour featuring Megadeth, Slayer, Machine Head and Suicide Silence, announced late yesterday that the dates had been postponed. The tour was scheduled to begin in Moncton Sunday and continue to Halifax.
Gillett Entertainment Group is asking fans to hold on to their tickets as they are working to reschedule both the Moncton and Halifax concerts.
The promoter said Araya, 48, is under the care of a specialist for a back injury, thought to be related to his on-stage activity, and the physician has ordered an immediate surgical procedure to take place in Texas today.
"What is foremost in our minds right now is that Tom do whatever he needs to get this taken care of," Slayer's Kerry King, said in a news release.
"While all four of us are disappointed that we won't be able to see through all of our commitments set for the next few weeks, the most important thing is Tom's health. We thank the fans in Canada," says the Megadeth camp. "We look forward to seeing you all soon."
