One person in custody after robbery on Mountain Road last night

A4

As many as 10 police vehicles barricaded off the intersection at Mountain Road, Archibald Street and Université Avenue for over an hour last night after an armed robbery at Ed's Submarine, 249 Archibald St.

The robbery occurred at approximately 8 p.m. and police cruisers were still on site at a property across from the sub shop at 222 Mountain Rd. late into the night.

Gilles Ratte, owner of Ed's Submarine, was called into his store after it was robbed.

Ratte explained that a man armed with a hand gun and wearing a black and white "Halloween mask" held up his store, "pointing the gun at the girl straight in the face."

In accordance with company policy, the employee handed over whatever cash was in her register.

"Oh yeah, whatever they want, just give it to them and call 911 after," Ratte said, explaining the policy.

The robber then left through the store's rear exit, he said.

Ratte said police were called and shortly afterward a woman called the restaurant to say she saw a person walking near the store wearing a mask who then entered the store and held it up.

Moments after the robbery, Ed's Submarine supervisor Trevor Renaud, who lives nearby on Université Avenue, received a call.

"I was trying to trim my cat's nails," he said, but when he received the call, Renaud tossed the phone aside and ran to the store.

Renaud said the employee who faced the robber had only been working at the store for a few months.

Shortly after the robbery, several police officers were seen standing inside the entrance of 222 Mountain Rd.

At one point, a man walked out of the home with a baby in his arms and then walked back in.

Soon after, police handcuffed two young men outside of the home, one in long pants and a winter coat, the other in a baseball cap, T-shirt and shorts.

The second individual could be heard asking police, "How can I be under arrest for robbery?" as he was being cuffed.

An officer at the scene would only say a robbery took place and the investigation was ongoing.

Shortly after midnight last night, Codiac RCMP Staff Sergeant Mike Babineau told the Times & Transcript that the robbery call came in at 7:57 p.m.

He explained that "a firearm was displayed" during the robbery, an undisclosed amount of money was taken and no one was injured.

While two men were seen being handcuffed last night, only one individual was being detained, Babineau said. He would not comment on the second person. He said the investigation was ongoing.

I wish people would get a life, go earn your own money instead of robbing businesses.

The "thumbs down" person is probably a relative, or someone who know's the person(s) involved. No one in their right mind would thumbs down the comments made.

If you do the crime, you must do the time! The lady who called the cops on the guy must be proud of herself, she may have saved someones life!
