Competition will determine 'green'-est of all

Provincial Envirothon set for May 22 to 24
Thirteen teams of high school students from around the province will gather in Edmundston next week to put their environmental knowledge to the test.
The winners of the provincial Envirothon competition will move on to represent New Brunswick at the Canon Envirothon competition in Flagstaff, Arizona July 28 to Aug. 3.
Three teams from Metro Moncton will vie for the honour, representing Bernice MacNaughton High School, Harrison Trimble High School, and École Mathieu-Martin.
The Canon Environthon is considered North America's largest high school environmental education competition.
The event has the students compete in hands-on challenges in soil/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife, and a current issue -- this year recreational impacts on natural resources.
The competition also includes an oral presentation component.
In 2007, more than 500,000 students took part in the various levels of the competition, with 52 teams -- including eight from Canada -- competing at the final in Geneva, New York.
The provincial competition is being held at the Edmundston campus of Université de Moncton May 22 to 24.
