ST. STEPHEN - The trial of three St. Stephen men charged with conspiracy to smuggle people across the border into the United States was postponed yesterday for the fourth time.

It has been more than a year since the three were arrested.

Byron Lawson Murray, 57, John Wayne Richardson, 48, and his son, John Jason Richardson, 21, were arrested on Jan. 21, 2007 near the Canada-U.S. border in Mohannes, about 12 kilometres from St. Stephen.

The three men are charged with conspiracy to smuggle people from Guyana into the U.S.

They were due to stand trial in St. Stephen provincial court yesterday but the trial was adjourned and rescheduled for April 15.

Crown prosecutor Peter Thorn asked for the adjournment because the Crown's request for a U.S. expert in American law was denied by the U.S. Attorney's office.
