Curling Beauséjour to play host to fun curling tournament, silent auction

The Canadian Cancer Society's Eastern District is hosting a Curl for Cancer event at Curling Beauséjour on Sunday, Nov. 29.

"It's not a tournament, it's mostly like a day of fun and curling," said Chantal Saucier, district manager. "What's fun is that most of our teams have never played curling before, so it's always fun to watch and we're doing a curling 101 before the event for everyone to get a feel for how the game is played."

There will also be a silent auction with many great prizes donated by local businesses, as well as medals for the top teams on the curling rink, as well as those who raise the most money and are the most enthusiastic.

Organizers are hoping the event raises $7,500, which will be used to support research, advocacy, primary prevention, information and support for people living with cancer.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and registration costs $5 per team member, with each team expected to raise as much as possible. Even those not wishing to enter a team are invited to come make a bid in the silent auction and to cheer on the teams. Curling Beauséjour is located at 80 Lockhart St. in Moncton. There will also be a Strike Out Cancer bowling event taking place in February. For more information, or to register a team for either event, call 859-6977.
