Letter of the day | Baffled by arrogance of Graham's government

To The Editor:

I continue to be baffled by the arrogance of Premier Shawn Graham. His government has in recent weeks made decisions that impact all sectors of our province.

Many of these are having, and will have, direct and negative consequences for New Brunswickers.

They have tried to make these changes all at once, hoping the press and public would get distracted and wouldn't hold them accountable.

The forestry industry is being devastated.

The health care system is being thrown into the air.

I won't even discuss the disgrace of Royal Oaks golf course.

What really crosses the line, however, is the behaviour of Kelly Lamrock. Has he no integrity? To call parents selfish, elitist and to imply they are "not Christian" if they oppose his changes is absolutely unacceptable in proper public debate.

Lamrock has obviously resorted to petty name-calling to deflect serious criticisms of his decision.

And his decision isn't just questionable, it's plain wrong.

There is no evidence to support his theories, nor his solutions. It's that simple.

It's a grand experiment on the backs of our children.

I am not a parent or grandparent of children who will be impacted, but I am a smart lady. The decision should be an embarrassment to all the Liberal MLAs and any Liberal in the province.

I have lived all my life in New Brunswick and have seen many governments come and go.

But Shawn Graham has clearly lost control of his minister in this case and needs to finally step forward and do the right thing.

Otherwise, the consequences for his government will be as devastating as this fiasco will be for the children of New Brunswick.

C. MacCallum,

Moncton

Arrogance and ignorance, both!

Some may be interested in reading the following letter, which
appeared in the Kings County Record two days ago, as it
points out something really fundamentally wrong:

It's not too, late Premier Graham. Asking Lamrock to step down would be a huge step in restoring the public's faith in your govt. and serve as proof that you are actually LISTENING to the electorate. Otherwise, start sending out your resume; you'll be looking for a new job in 2010.

Perhaps next time around we'll actually think about things and not elect a bunch of thirty somethings whose real life experience consists of being fired from every job they've ever had (Lamrock) and a bartender at Sweetwaters (Graham).

Our Legislature is a glorified afterschool club and we're seeing the results of inexperience and immaturity every single day.

The government has based its decision on flawed statistics supplied by the Dept of Education which had to blame somebody or someone for their incompetence. So the Dept conned the minister in scrapping EFI with flawed statistics and now the minister is too arrogant to accept that he has been conned and both he and the Premier are prepared to do enormous harm to the future of the children rather than admit their mistake.
