Don't worry, be happy!

To The Editor:

"Faith to me has nothing to do with getting into heaven" says Brett Anningson (Religion Today column, Times & Transcript, Sept. 27).

Professing faith in the saving power of Jesus Christ "never made a lot of sense" to Brett either.

In fact, God shows up at unexpected times and unexpected ways and reminds us that no matter what happens, "it will be OK."

To me this position is the ultimate in "don't worry, be happy" as there's no need for a Saviour.

The Bible, however, says something quite different.

"God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." (1 John 5).

Brett offers no authority for his opinions that may impact a person for eternity, other than his personal experiences with God.

With the Bible as my authority, I believe those who "do not have the Son of God", have a lot to worry about.

Mike Wilbur,

Moncton

Ok, now this is absurd! What in the world is the world coming to when we have letters such as this written in the newspaper? I applaud both Mr. Wilbur and Mr. Anningson for their beliefs, opinions, and rights to express them, however these types of comments border on the silly! I am a Christian and follow the guidelines set forth thereunder, however I would never force others to follow - it is a choice. I also firmly believe that God is all forgiving and one day we "ALL" will be welcome, those who chose to and those who don't. Please Mr. Wilbur, let us accept all as the Christians we are, just as the Saviour did and I am sure would do today.

Religion to me is a bureaucracy between man and God that I don't need. Anyway, let's face it; God has a big ego problem. Why do we always have to worship him?
