
Bernard Cyr named business laureate

Derek Oland, Jim Ross also honoured by Junior Achievement New Brunswick

FREDERICTON - Moncton entrepreneur Bernard Cyr, along with fellow New Brunswick businessmen Derek Oland and Jim Ross, have been named 2008 Laureates by Junior Achievement New Brunswick.
Each will be inducted into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame at a gala dinner Oct. 28.
Junior Achievement N.B. CEO and president Connie Woodside described the three prominent businessmen as "outstanding examples of how far ingenuity, perseverance and hard work can take you.
"Creating a successful business is the result of growing opportunities, taking calculated risks and remaining committed. These business leaders are all excellent examples of what can be created as the result of hard work," she said.
The owner and president of Cyr Holdings Inc., Cyr operates the Château Moncton and the Best Western Hotel as part of commercial properties and restaurants developments including the Dooly's Group with locations nationwide, and is a director of many companies and organizations including the National Bank of Canada, NB Power and the Dr. Georges-L-Dumont Hospital Foundation.
Oland, executive chairman of Moosehead Breweries Limited and fifth generation family member to head the Saint John-based company, is also chairman of Emera Inc., the parent company of Nova Scotia Power, and of the G. Wallace F. McCain Institute for Business Leadership. He is also a director of a number of Canadian corporations.
Ross is chairman of Ross Ventures Ltd., a successful company with interests in commercial real estate, radio broadcasting and food and beverage services, and was a former senator from 1990- 1993. The following year he founded Partners for Youth to help youth at risk.
The 12th annual gala and fundraiser will be held at the University of New Brunswick's Aitken Centre.

Junior Achievement brings together business leaders, educators, parents and the community to help prepare youth for their future.
