CARAQUET - A 62-year-old Lameque Island man has been sentenced to a two-and-a-half-year prison term on sex-related offences two decades ago involving an underage girl.
Paul-Marie Savoie of Sainte-Marie-Saint-Raphael was in Caraquet provincial court this week for sentencing by Judge Yvette Finn for sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching committed between 1985 and 1993.
In addition to prison time, Savoie was assessed a $300 victim fine surcharge, prohibited from possession firearms and ordered to provide a DNA sample for the national crime data bank and to conform to the Sex Offender Information Registration Act.
Sainte-Marie-Saint-Raphael is several kilometres east of the Town of Lameque.
