SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - A Prince Edward Island trucker is claiming that a bump on the head has caused him to forget many of the details surrounding a hit and run accident on the Confederation Bridge in February.

Tractor trailer driver Glenn David Hynes says a fall from the top of his rig while he was trying to secure a tarpaulin over a load of salt resulted in a concussion.

Hynes testified in Summerside provincial court yesterday, saying the fall was the reason he couldn't recall details of how he struck a truck while attempting to pass a car and a tractor-trailer on the Confederation Bridge.

Julie MacCaull, the driver of the car between the two trucks, says she watched as Hynes attempted to pass several times, and then struck the tractor-trailer in front of her on the third attempt.

Truck driver Russell Drake testified he was shocked when he saw Hynes' first attempt to pass him, since passing vehicles is not allowed on the bridge.

Drake told the court he felt the impact of Hynes' transport when it struck him.

Both MacCaull and Drake said the situation could have been far worse than it was.

There was on-coming traffic on the bridge during the incident and each of them was placed in a situation where they could have been injured.

Injured ? At the height of that bridge and the size of T/T, hitting the rail the wrong way could send a truck over it and down it goes. In that situation with 2 trucks and car traffic it could of been far worse than injured my friend. Why is he driving to begin with? he must of felt sick if he had a concussion.
