South East athletes shine at Atlantics

Keily, Coholan each bring home two golds

LOWER SACKVILLE - A number of athletes from the South East Athletics Club fared well at the Atlantic track and field championships on the weekend.

Alexondra Keily in peewee girls and Alex Coholan in midget boys each won two gold medals.

Keily won both the high jump (1.15 metres) and the long jump (3.62m) while Coholan won the 200m (23.79) and the 400m (54.93).

Emily Arsenault took first place in the midget girls 200m (27.08) and second in the 100m (13.28). Also in midget girls, Stephanie Doiron won the high jump (1.50m).

Andre Bourgeois in midget boys finished first in the javelin (45.08m) and second in the 100m (11.90).

Also in midget boys, Ryan Cassidy won the 1,500m (4:21:68) and second in the 800m (2:16.33) while Jeremie Pellerin was third in the 1,500m (4:40.77).

In juvenile boys, Alex Stuart took second in the 200m (23.36) and third in the 100m (11.69) while Chris Robertson was second in the 400m hurdles (59.87) and third in the high jump (1.70m).

In bantam girls, Monika LeBlanc was second in the 1,500m (5:44) and second in the 200m (30.87) while Monica Tremblay was second in the long jump (4.35m).

Nathaniel Douthwright was third in juvenile javelin (38.83m), Sebastien LeBlanc was first in peewee long jump (2.94m) and Mathieu Lagace was third in senior hammer (26.94m),

Meanwhile, Samantha MacDonald of the Miramichi Giants won the juvenile girls heptathlon with a score of 3,491 and recorded personal bests in five of her seven events.

Other top performances from provincial athletes included Amy Grant from the Chaleur Track and Field Club of Bathurst.

Grant won three events in the bantam division -- 100m (13.38), 200m (27.86) and 400m (1:03.66).

Members of the Elite Club d'Athletisme of St.-Louis-De-Kent also fared well.

Pierre Landry was second in senior men's discus (29.68m), Mylene Guimond third in the juvenile 400m (1:13.94), Christine Vautour third in peewee long jump (4.00m) and Jean-Denis Caissie third in midget javelin (40.32m).
