Midget Acadiens turn back Lancers

Dieppe/Memramcook Acadiens turned back the Lewisville Home hardware Lancers 9-3 in Southeast Recreational Midget Hockey League play last night.

Jason Hutchinson led the Acadiens attack with three goals while Pierrot Bisson had a pair. Singles went to Remi Goguen, Remi Richard, Jeremie Leger and Andre Bourgeois. Martin Bourque was in goal.

Ryan Arsenault netted a pair for Lewisville while Brandon Poirier had the other. Colby MacDonald was the goaltender.

The Acadiens outshot the Lancers 46-13.

Vees face tough weekend on ice

The Dieppe/Memramcook Voyageurs face a tough weekend as they start the second half of their New Brunswick Junior Hockey League season tonight by hosting the Eastern Division leading Moncton Vito's.

The Voyageurs (11-2-1) trail Moncton (13-3-0) by three points in the standings but have two games in hand. Game time is 6:45 p.m. at The Arthur J. LeBlanc Centre in Dieppe.

Tomorrow, the Vees travel to Fredericton for a 3 p.m. tilt as they take on the Western Division leading Fredericton Falcons who are 12-2-0.

Tryouts slated for Roofers volleyball

The Moncton Roofers will hold a provincial volleyball tryout next week.

The tryouts for the under-14 squad will be held Monday at Magnetic Hill School from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Tryouts are open to girls born in 1994 and 1995 (Grades 7, 8).

Shediac road race set for Jan. 31

SHEDIAC -- A one mile road race, in conjunction with the Shediac Winter Carnival, will be held Jan. 31 at 10 a.m.

Registration is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. the morning of the race at the tourist information building by Shediac's giant lobster. The race starts by Glenwood Kitchens and finishes at Pascal Poirier Park.

The top male and female finishers will each take home $50. Medals will be awarded to the first place finishers in each age category. The first 50 participants registered will receive T-shirts.

Registration fee is $5.

Moncton wrestlers head to N.S. meet

HALIFAX -- Moncton's Mountain Top Wrestling Club will participate in the Nova Scotia Open wrestling meet here tomorrow.

The meet will feature two divisions -- Canada Games age 1991-94 and junior/senior.

Mountain Top participants include Corey Boudreau, David Oullette, Chris LeBlanc, Jamie MacFarlane, Sam Burke and Jolaine Amos in the Canada Games division and Greg MacLean, Adam Magee and Cejay Riley in the junior/senior.

Midget Hawks hit Voyageurs hard

Moncton Hawks blasted the Dieppe/Memramcook Voyageurs 7-1 in Central Midget AA Hockey League action last night at the Tim Hortons 4-Ice centre.

Brian Stewart and Mike Atkinson led the Moncton attack with a pair of goals apiece.

Single markers went to Will Rochlow, James Donovan and Dan Daley.

Conal Murphy was the winning goaltender.

Daniel Poirier replied for the Voyageurs.

The Dieppe/Memramcook goaltender was Marc Belliveau.
