Spinnerette

Spinnerette

Former Distillers front woman Brody Dale's new band Spinnerette is a heavy alternative rock band. Featuring former Distillers band mate Tony Bevilacqua on guitars, Alain Johannes, a veteran musician who has played with the Queens of the Stone Age on bass, and drummer Jack Irons, who has played with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam; Dale has surrounded herself with some veteran musicians. Spinnerette's sound would best be described as punk, but there is much more to it. Full of catchy songs buried underneath grimy guitar-driven rock, there's a lot to like about this album. With a bit of an industrial feel to the album, fans of heavy rock should definitely check out Spinnerette. There's even a guest appearance by Dale's husband Josh Homme on one track. Highlights include Ghetto Love, All Babes are Wolves, and Driving Song.

Simple Minds

Graffiti Soul

Long past their success in the 80s and 90s, Scotland's Simple Minds are back with their sixteenth studio album. While their biggest hit Don't You (Forget About Me) is still being played on the radio, it's been a while since they've been in the spotlight. Their new album Graffiti Soul maintains the sound that made them successful but it has matured with the band and changing musical tastes leaving us with a modern version of Simple Minds. Fans of the band won't be disappointed with this new album. While the younger crowd who don't remember Simple Minds in their prime might not enjoy Graffiti Soul, people who do remember them will find a lot to enjoy. If you're looking for a good easy listening album check out Simple Minds' Graffiti Soul. Highlights Include Moscow Underground, Stars Will Lead The Way, and Graffiti Soul.

Phoenix

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Hailing from France, Phoenix is a poppy alternative band reminiscent of The Killers, but with a more experimental sound and in my opinion they're much better. While the album won't grab you on the first listen, after a couple of spins you'll like it more and more and find the songs sticking in your head. The first song Lisztomania sets the tone for the rest of the album that features catchy guitar-driven choruses with a bit of synth pop. The electronica aspect of their sound gives the album a few tracks that wouldn't be out of place on a dance floor. With a unique catchy vibe that no one else seems to be doing, this band should gain a few more fans with their new album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Highlights include Lisztomania, 1901, and Rome.
