
Marshview hosts after school program

District 2 students keeping busy with fundraisers, special events

A kickoff celebration for Marshview Middle School's after school program will take place at the Sackville school tomorrow, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m. Program partners from District 2 and the York Street Children's Centre will be on hand to take part in the official opening of the newly licensed program. Marshview's after school program will cater to students in grades 5-8, focusing on homework help and physical education. * Riverview Crime Prevention will be presenting the premiere of 'In Pink' at the Riverview Arts Centre on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The production chronicles the efforts of Nova Scotia high school students David 'DJ' Shepherd and Travis Price, who took a stand against bullying in their school. The stage show is produced by Halifax's Left Foot Productions with tickets costing $10 each. For tickets and more information visit www.riverview-arts-centre.ca.
* Students at Gunningsville School have kicked off their annual fundraiser for another year. Students will be collecting pledges and participating in a walk-a-thon to promote healthy living as part of the initiative. * Students at Harrison Trimble High School are gearing up for the 26th instalment of the Trojan Trek, taking place today. Every year, students trek from the high school to the Moncton Hospital to present a cheque to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital. This year's goal is $14,000.
* Hillsborough's Caledonia Regional High School will feature a bounty of crafts and baked goods for sale at its Christmas at Caledonia fundraiser, slated for Friday, Nov. 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 14. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event raises money for the school's mini-bus program. * Twenty students from Caledonia Regional High School in Hillsborough will be heading to Vegreville, Alberta in May as part of a two-week exchange program. Caledonia students will travel to Alberta the last week of May with Vegreville students arriving in Hillsborough the second week of May. * The public is invited to check out Caledonia Regional High School's creepy Haunted Hills event at the school on Friday, Oct. 30 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is being spearheaded by the school's art department with all funds going towards digital media equipment and furniture for the school's dark room. * Hillcrest School was recently presented with a cheque for $1,000 from Cathy Darland, manager of Advanced Savings Credit Union, to promote literacy at the school. Hillcrest was also recently awarded a $2,500 grant from the S'Cool Life Fund, a national program that has donated $226,000 to schools across Canada for the development of drama, recreation, extracurricular, arts, music and sports this year.
