Bathurst girls win soccer title

ROTHESAY - École Secondaire Nepisiguit Rebelles of Bathurst won the New Brunswick AAA high school junior girls soccer championship here Saturday.

ESN edged the Fredericton High Black Kats 3-2 in the final at the Arthur Miller Field.

In semifinal games earlier in the day, ESN defeated the Leo Hayes Lions of Fredericton 4-2 and Fredericton High beat the Mathieu-Martin Vedettes 2-1.

In Fredericton, l'Odyssée Olympiens defeated Cité-des-Jeunes Republicans of Edmundston 2-0 in the AAA junior boys final.

L'Odyssée beat Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders 3-1 and Cité-des-Jeunes shaded the Louis-J-Robichaud Patriotes 3-2 in semifinal games.

The provincial AAA senior girls and boys championship tournaments will be played Saturday at Miramichi Valley High School.

In the girls division, Sussex High Sonics will meet the Harrison Trimble Trojans and the Clément-Cormier Cavalières will face Fredericton High in semifinal games at 9:45 a.m. The final goes at 1:15 p.m.

In the boys division, St. Stephen Spartans will tangle with l'Odyssée and Mathieu-Martin will square off against Leo Hayes at 11:30 a.m. The final is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
