Curtis Bonnell facing four charges, including sexual assault and unlawful confinement

MIRAMICHI - An Esgenoopetitj First Nation man appeared in Miramichi provincial court yesterday, facing four charges relating to an alleged sexual assault involving a 17-year-old girl over the weekend.

Curtis Wayne Bonnell, 29, sat hunched over in the prisoners' box while Judge Geri Mahoney read the charges, which included sexual assault, unlawful confinement, resisting arrest and engaging in an act of anal intercourse.

He was arrested at a home registered to his father, Esgenoopetitj (Burnt Church) band councillor Christopher Bonnell, Sunday evening after police received a sexual assault complaint at about 6 a.m. earlier that day.

Curtis Bonnell is the cousin of missing 16-year-old Hilary Bonnell, whose Sept. 5 disappearance is also the subject of an RCMP investigation.

Wearing a gray sweat shirt and a ball cap, Curtis Bonnell complained multiple times to the court that he wasn't feeling well and sat slouched over in the prisoners' box, prompting the judge to ask if he was even paying attention.

Bonnell refused to speak with duty counsel Melanie MacAuley prior to his appearance and reiterated his desire to enter a plea on the spot.

The court told Bonnell he wouldn't be able to enter a plea until he spoke with a lawyer prior to a bail hearing scheduled for Friday morning.

He is being held in Moncton until then.

"But I'm objecting to the bail hearing; I want to go through to the next step," Bonnell said, raising his voice to the judge and swearing under his breath.

Yep,and also,

Curtis Bonnell is the cousin of missing 16-year-old Hilary Bonnell, whose Sept. 5 disappearance is also the subject of an RCMP investigation.

It don't smeel very good for this case, he wants to do this one fast, hopefully get a probation or something, and then take off so he may not have to answer any questions about his missing 16 yr old coussin ??
I don't know, but I think the cops may just have found some important clues here.

Well wasn't that interesting, I state obvious facts about previous missing person cases, mention their living situation (clearly indicated in another post at 11:39:11am), question their need for money when expenses haven't been incured and the web nazi at the T&T removes my comment. Apparently it would still be there if I made unsubstantiated and judgemental claims like Mr. Paladin has done in this very same forum.

It saddens me CCoM that you would even attempt to find fault or some angle with my request for donations. Posters and billboards cost money. So does driving all over hell and creation looking for a missing daughter. A search costs money to maintain and sustain. They are at present broke. The donations are the only money coming in.They still need to eat and survive while they continue their search. They already have to the best of their ability asked for the public's help and support. I am only helping them get the word out as best I can.

A Sad Update:

RCMP have discovered a body buried in a remote, wooded area in northern New Brunswick they believe may be that of Hilary Bonnell, the Esgenoopetitj First Nation teenager who went missing two months ago.
