Man assaulted outside Moncton bank branch

A6

Codiac RCMP are investigating a pair of armed robberies, including one where a man was assaulted outside a Moncton bank.

Yesterday's attempted armed robbery occurred outside the CIBC branch at 655 Mountain Rd. at approximately 6:30 a.m. An armed suspect approached a man just outside the bank and demanded money from the victim.

The victim did not give the robber any cash and was assaulted. The suspect fled and was last seen running on Walsh Street heading towards Connaught Avenue. The Codiac RCMP police dog was also called to the scene but no suspect was arrested.

The victim received minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

The suspect is described as a tall Caucasian male, with a thin to medium build, wearing a dark hooded sweater and black pants.

Const. Chantal Farrah says it's too soon to know if there's any connection between this robbery and one that took place Monday night. Around 10:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to an armed robbery at a convenience store located at 121 Killam Drive in Moncton.

A man armed with a weapon entered Chubby's Variety and demanded money from an employee. He left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as being tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark hooded sweater and black sweat pants with white stripes on the side.

Police are not disclosing the weapon used in the robberies.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Codiac RCMP at 857-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
