FREDERICTON - A judge told a man who illegally cashed what was supposed to be a rent cheque so he could buy cigarettes that it was time for him to grow up, just before she sentenced him to jail time yesterday.

Jeremiah John Lovely, 30, was in Fredericton provincial court to be sentenced on a Nov. 1 count of uttering a forged document.

Lovely used a cheque from the band made out to the Fort Nashwaak Motel to buy various items, including cigarettes, totalling $60.52. The cheque was for about $690. The Kingsclear First Nation cut Lovely the cheque to pay for a month's stay at the motel.
