It's 'game on' this weekend for street hockey in downtown Dieppe as the first ever 3X3 Street Hockey Tournament begins today outside Place 1604, continuing into Sunday.
While registration for teams has passed, spectators have been invited to come out and watch the games unfold. The event will also feature a barbecue and live music.
More than 30 teams ranging in all the ages have signed up for the event and include the youth categories of 10-12-year-olds, 13-15-year-olds, and 16-18-year-olds. In the 19 slot, men's recreational, men's competitive and women's category have been included.
The event has been designed to kick off Dieppe's hockey season for 2008-09.
Winning teams in the youth category will get the chance to spend the day with the Dieppe Commandos while winning adult teams will get a tour of the Molson Brewery in Moncton.
As part of the event, a free rock concert will be held tonight at Place 1604 starting at 8 p.m. with Velvet Jesi, who plays a variety of music from Tom Petty, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Eagles and many other popular rock bands. A beer garden will also be on site tonight, opening at 8 p.m.
