
Crushers earn first win at Royal Bank Cup


Moncton players on Pictou County squad at national junior A championship
CORNWALL, Ont. - The Pictou County Weeks Crushers -- featuring Moncton's Jason Rinzler and Jevin MacLellan -- came up with their first win at the Royal Bank Cup national junior A hockey championship last night.
Geoff Hum scored on the power play at 5:01 of overtime to lift the Eastern champion Crushers to a 4-3 victory over the Central champion Oakville Blades.
Pictou County, which received a 41-save performance from goaltender Alexandre Quessy, improved its record to 1-1. Oakville dropped to 0-2.
Kevin MacLean, Jordan Knox and Tyson Cameron also tallied for the Crushers while Rinzler chipped in with two assists.
Chris Haltigin, Dustin Alcock and Taylor Farris answered for the Blades, who outshot Pictou County 44-26.
The Crushers trailed 3-2 late in the third period until Cameron fired the game-tying goal with just under four minutes remaining.
Pictou County led 1-0 after the first period and Oakville was up 2-1 after the second. Oliver Wren made 22 saves for the Blades.
In yesterday's other game, the Pacific champion Camrose Kodiacs (2-0) stayed perfect with a 2-1 win over the Western champion Humboldt Broncos (1-1).
Pictou County plays the host Cornwall Colts (1-1) tonight.
The top four teams following the round robin will advance to semifinals on Saturday. The championship game on Sunday will be broadcast at 2 p.m. on TSN.
