Atlantic Drag Racing Association event attracts 200 cars

MIRAMICHI - Mike Stone of Riverview drove his 1988 Chevy S-10 to victory in the pro class at Sunday's Atlantic Drag Racing Association meet at Miramichi Dragway Park.

Weekend races attracted 200 cars and about 1,000 spectators. Racing resumes in Miramichi July 31-Aug. 2.

Jack Keirstead of Onslow, N.S. placed second in the pro class (11.5-13.49 seconds) Sunday while Terry Knapper of Moncton was third.

In Saturday's pro class, Greg Mitton of Sussex finished first, followed by Jeff Wilson of Moncton and Knapper.

Barry Melanson of Amherst captured Sunday's super pro class (11.49 seconds and quicker), followed by Bob Patridge of Sackville and Bruce Howatt of Charlottetown. Barry Niesten of Millville, N.S. won Saturday's super pro, followed by Jim Burns of Rothesay and Ray Roach of Saint John.

Lloyd Keirstead of Onslow won Sunday's sportsman class (13.5 seconds and slower), followed by Brian McLong of Hanecock and Carl Leeman of Letang.

Moncton's Mark Murray took Saturday's sportsman, followed by Gary Bowes of Petitcodiac and Richard Leger of Shediac.

Kandy Mitton of Sussex won Sunday's gamblers' race and Ray Roach of Saint John was second. Patridge and Murray were the top two finishers in Saturday's gamblers' event.

Brett Ramsay of Wellington, P.E.I. captured both junior gamblers' titles.

Campbellton's Frank Richard won Sunday's bike and sled crown, followed by Melanie Allen of Steeves Mountain and Barry Naugle of Fredericton.

Saturday's bike and sled race was captured by Glenn Frizzel of Charlottetown, followed by Dave Woolwridge of Summerside and Leonard Steeves of Moncton.

Charles Horbart of Grand Bay-Westfield won Sunday's junior title. Kyle Forbes of Douglas placed second and Ramsay was third. The top three Saturday were Horbart, Ramsay and Riley Green of Berwick.

Saturday's races were sponsored by Napa Auto Parts in Douglastown and Sunday's events were sponsored by Bremner Farms.
