Tucker wins Maritime pro stock tour race

Boundary Creek's Dave O'Blenis places fifth at Scotia Speedworld

HALIFAX - Shawn Tucker of Fredericton drove his Chevrolet Impala SS to victory in the Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour Forbes Chevrolet 100 at Scotia Speedworld here yesterday.

Tucker won with a 0.018 second margin of victory over John Flemming of Halifax. Wayne Smith of Timberlea finished third.

Dave O'Blenis of Boundary Creek placed fifth in the 26-car field. Riverview's Mike Stevens was 11th and Josh Jaillet of Moncton came in 19th.

Greg Proude of Springvale, P.E.I. won the most laps led award after leading 79 laps of the race. Only five cautions interrupted the race, which included a 76-lap green flag run and took just under an hour to complete.

O'Blenis, Smith and Mike McKenzie of Dartmouth, N.S. won heat races. Donald Chisholm of Antigonish, N.S. claimed the dash for cash, featuring the top 10 finishers in the time trials to earn the pole position. Chisholm also had the fastest time, with a time of 14.518 seconds (74.390 miles per hour).

The series resumes July 18 at Riverside International Speedway in James River, N.S.

Meanwhile, Kevin Moore of Pepper Creek captured the pro stock division feature at Speedway 660's Fan Fest 2009 community appreciation event in Geary Saturday.

Moore finished the race ahead of Greg Fahey of St. Stephen and Glenn Rasmussen of New Denmark. Brad Mann of Glen Levit came in fourth and Brian MacNaughton of Lower Coverdale finished fifth. MacNaughton won the pro stock dash.

John Rankin of St. Martins was the sportsman feature winner while Rick Cashol of Saint John took the street stock feature.

Racing is scheduled for Saturday in Geary.

Racing at the Centre for Speed in Barachois was postponed yesterday because of the forecasted weather. The event will be rescheduled at a later date.

The South East Challenge, a partnership between Centre for Speed and River Glade Speedway, resumes Sunday in River Glade.

Blue Mountain Speedway in Big River, just outside of Bathurst, opens Saturday while racing at Miramichi City Speedway begins July 18.
