UdeM women's squad loses 1-0 to X-Women in playoffs

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues have been eliminated from further championship play as they lost 1-0 to Saint Francis Xavier X-Women yesterday in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer playoff action.

"We hit the cross bar twice in the last five minutes of play," coach Sylvain Rastello said. "We played well and the girls can walk with their head up."

Josée LeBlanc was chosen as the player of the game.

The game was hotly contested at St. FX scored in the first five minutes of play. It was Moncton's first participation in the AUS playoffs in the past seven years.

University of Cape Breton Capers beat Memorial Sea-Hawks 2-0 in yesterday's other played in the other quarter final match last night.

First-place Dalhousie Tigers will face St. FX and second-place University of Prince Edward Island Panthers meets Cape Breton in today's semifinals. The final will be played tomorrow.

The winner and runner-up will compete at the national championship tournament Nov. 12-15 at the University of Toronto.

Meanwhile, yesterday's heavy snow in Halifax forced the postponement of quarter-final games at the AUS men's soccer conference championship tournament at Dalhousie University

Université de Moncton will now meet the University of New Brunswick at noon today while the University of Prince Edward Island will clash with St. Francis Xavier at 3 p.m.

Cape Breton University Capers and Dalhousie Tigers will face the winners in semifinals tomorrow afternoon and the championship game will go on Monday.

The conference winner and runner-up will advance to the national championship tournament Nov. 12-15 at Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C.
