Central Scouting has released its preliminary rankings for the 2010 National Hockey League draft and the Moncton Wildcats have good reason to smile.

Central Scouting has separate lists that rank the top 25 skaters and top six goaltenders in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League and the junior A level United States Hockey League.

Moncton owns the QMJHL's top two skaters for the 2010 NHL draft -- defenceman Brandon Gormley is the No. 1 prospect followed by left winger Kirill Kabanov. The Wildcats also have the QMJHL's top rated goaltender in Louis Domingue.

Gormley, a 17-year-old sophomore, is the Wildcats' fourth leading scorer with 16 points in 22 games. He was a standout in helping Canada capture the gold medal at the 2009 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament, a world under-18 event this summer. Kabanov, a 17-year-old rookie, has five goals and 14 points in 11 games. The Russian turned down big money to play pro in his homeland in order to suit up in the Canadian major junior ranks and prepare for the NHL.

Kabanov underwent surgery yesterday to repair a wrist injury that he suffered late last season.

He's expected to miss 10-12 weeks. Domingue, a 17-year-old sophomore, is among the QMJHL's goaltending leaders with a 2.50 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and 8-7 record. He was the starter for Canada's gold medalist at the 2009 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament.
