
Highlanders, Royals post AAA girls victories

Grace Wade notched 13 points and led the Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders to a 91-44 victory over the James M. Hill Tommies in Northeastern Conference senior girls AAA high school basketball play Saturday.
Stephanie Kelly contributed 11 points and Alysha Bulman had 10. Alana Napke threw in 12 points for the Tommies and Brianna MacDonald had eight.
In another game, the Riverview High Royals downed the Tantramar Titans 78-27. Vanessa Pickard led the Royals with 28 points while Jenna Jones had 14 and Katie Donahoe added 11. Lindsay Niles scored seven points for the Titans and Autumn Embree added six.
Tantramar beat the Mathieu-Martin Vedettes 77-30 Friday. Jenna Field and Niles each netted 16 points for the Titans while Katie Cadman added 12 and Victoria Tower had 10.
Julie Malchow scored 10 points and Anik Gautreau added nine for the Vedettes.
* The l'Odyssée Olympiennes beat the Miramichi Valley Pulamoo 58-56, Bonar Law Bengals 55-37 and Dalhousie Condors 66-37 at the Bathurst High Phantoms Invitational. Lyndsay Melanson paced the Olympiennes with 12 points and Julie Owen added nine against Miramichi Valley. Lincoln Menzies netted 13 points for the Pulamoo while Olivia Barry added 11.
Melanson led the Olympiennes attack with 14 points and Janelle Cormier added 10 against Bonar Law. Taylor Hannah answered with 10 points and Shelby Warman chipped in with eight for the Bengals.Melanson continued to hold the hot hand for the Olympiennes by tossing in 17 points while Owen had 15 against Dalhousie. Madyson Williams scored 18 points for the Condors while Sinclair Green had seven. Condors downed the hometown Phantoms 71-47. Williams led the Condors with 20 points and Green poured in 16. Emily Butler paced the Phantoms with 11 points and Taylor MacDonald added 10.
Laura Richard scored 12 points and led the Pulamoo to a 54-20 victory over the Bengals. Menzies added 11 points while Warman replied with seven for the Bengals.
* In an Eastern Conference AA game, J.M.A. Armstrong Cougars defeated the Minto Tigers 71-44. Brittany Colpitts poured in 35 points for the Cougars while Jill Hopper added 15 and Jordan Caissie had 14. Sam McKeil answered with 20 points for the Tigers.
* In Northeastern Conference junior girls league play, Harrison Trimble Trojans recorded two victories during the weekend.
Kelsey Foster scored 15 points and led the Trojans to a 63-40 victory over the Moncton High Purple Knights Friday.
Katie Gillis added 12 points while Christie Vincent and Eibhlin Storey each had 11. Sarah Taplin replied with 16 points for the Knights.
Foster threw in 18 points and paced the Trojans to a 62-46 win over Miramichi Valley Saturday. Julianna Mutch notched 14 points and Gillis chipped in with 11. Crystal Carrol had 17 points for the Pulamoo.
Riverview High defeated Tantramar 96-20. Meghan Corvec had 13 points for the Royals while Emily Curry netted 12 and Taylor Coleman and Colleen Roach each had 11. Sarah Briggs replied with eight points for the Titans.
BOYS
The Bernice MacNaughton junior boys team captured the Little Barrel tournament at Carleton North High in Bristol.
The Highlanders defeated the host Carleton North Stars 56-30 in the final, with tournament most valuable player Kyle McConnell leading the way with 24 points.
Bernice MacNaughton went 3-0 in the round robin. It defeated Woodstock 67-37, getting 24 points from McConnell and 10 from Tyler Doiron.The Highlanders beat Carleton North 59-23. McConnell poured in 22 points and Zach Thorne added 14 in the victory.
Bernice MacNaughton also downed Southern Victoria 81-26. Matt Smith and McConnell each netted 12 points and Brett Pierce had 10 for the Highlanders.
* In a Northeast Conference junior boys game, Harrison Trimble downed Miramichi Valley 56-42.
Alex Fowler led the Trojans with 20 points, Brandon Seagrave helped out with 12 and Tyler Pavlovic had 10. Brett Gallant tallied 15 points for the Pulamoo.
Another game saw Riverview High defeat James M. Hill 62-57. John Balloch scored 23 points for the Royals while Matt Veno countered with 14 points for the Tommies.
