Tigers split girls' exhibition games

Caledonia Tigers split a pair of high school girls exhibition basketball games here in Rothesay on the weekend.

Tigers, of Hillsborough, rallied from a two-point deficit at halftime to beat Grand Manan 68-57. Hillary Hooper led Caledonia with 17 points and Jessie Browne replied with 13 for Grand Manan.

Rothesay-Netherwood Riverhawks beat the Tigers 66-41. Gaelyn McMackin had 20 points for the Riverhawks and Hooper threw in 12 for the Tigers.

* The Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders beat North Nova Gryphons of New Glasgow, N.S. 92-48 in a senior girls exhibition game. Grace Wade paced the Highlanders with 16 points while Stephanie Kelly had 13 and Amy Cormier and Lauren Sutherland each chopped in with 10. Sam Hyson led the Gryphons with 27 points.

* The Upper Miramichi Boas split their first two Northern Conference senior girls AA games of the season in Boiestown. Upper Miramichi downed the North & South Esk Cobras of Sunny Corner 83-75.

Jasmine Hunter scored 24 points, Janelle Norrad added 22 and Taylor Wilson had 16 for the Boas. The Cobras received 33 points from Kailey Mather and 19 from Jenna Matchett.

Upper Miramichi lost 68-55 to the Sugarloaf Bruins of Campbellton . Ashley Kaine poured in 24 points for the Bruins and Kayla Crelean helped out with 14. Hunter led the Boas with 16 points while Rilee Carroll and Norrad each netted 10.

BOYS

Bernice MacNaughton topped the Saint John High Greyhounds 90-20 in a senior boys exhibition game. Caleb Dow 17 and Evan Smith 17 each had 17 points for the Highlanders. Eric Lowe added 16 points and Ben McGillvrary had 10. Sean Wedge had six points for the Greyhounds.

* Bathurst High Phantoms defeated the Mathieu-Martin Matadors 88-43 in a Northeast Conference senior boys AAA game. Brad States led the Phantoms with 23 points while Mathieu Nowlan had 17 and Curtis Johnson added 10. J-F Allard scored 11 points for the Matadors while Marc-André Long contributed 10 and Marc Boucher had nine.

* Sugarloaf won three straight games in Fort Fairfield, Me. Pat MacNaughton scored 25 points and led the Bruins to a 57-51 win over Fort Fairfield. Spencer Barnaby added 12 points and Houston Barnaby had eight.

MacNaughton and Pat Johnson each had 15 points in Sugarloaf's 54-37 victory over Limestone, Me. Fraser Barnaby added 10 points.

Sugarloaf then defeated Southern Victoria of Perth-Andover 63-37. MacNaughton threw in 16 points while Eric Johnson had 13 and Fraser Barnaby added 10.
