Aigles Bleues wrap up first half just two points behind X-Women

Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues wrapped up the first half of the Atlantic University Sport women's hockey conference season with a pair of victories and moved within two points of the first-place St. Francis Xavier X-Women.
Aigles Bleues improved their record to 8-2-1 by beating the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers 7-1 yesterday at the J-Louis Levesque Arena. They also blanked the St. Thomas Tommies 1-0 Saturday in Fredericton.
"This is the way we wanted to finish the first half of the season, on a positive note," said Aigles Bleues head coach Denis Ross.
"I am happy that all lines contributed to the offensive effort and that we took advantage of the opportunities to score," he said. "We had good puck control and that created favourable situations for us."
Valérie Boisclair and Mariève Provost each scored twice for the Aigles yesterday while Janie LeBlanc, Karine Roy, her first, and Marie-Pier Plourde, each added a goal.
Amber Gaudette had the lone Panthers goal in the first period.

Kathy Desjardins made 18 saves for the win. Kristi Dobson turned aside 26 shots and took the loss.

UPEI shaded Mount Allison 3-1 on Saturday.
Jamie Lynn Donaldson, Genna Phelan and Amanda Armstrong each scored for the Panthers and Katelyn Morton replied for the Mounties.
