
Saint John leads 'B' bowling tourney


Team with best record after today's final three rounds will be champs
Saint John may enjoy the second-day lead at the New Brunswick Bowling Classic but it'll have to be at its best in today's final three matches at Riverview Parklanes.
Saint John took 28 of a possible 32 points yesterday to grab the tourney lead with a 50-14 record.
The team with the best record after today's final three rounds will be declared the champions. Today's rounds are slated for 8:30 a.m., noon and 3 p.m.
Woodstock No. 1 and Little's Lumber of Harvey are tied for second place with 48-16 records.
Host Riverview Parklanes stands fourth at 44-20 and plays both Woodstock No. 1 and Little's Lumber in two of their final three matches today.
The tourney, also known as the N.B. men's B candlepin championship, was won last year by Minto.
Sussex sits in fifth place with a 40-24 slate while Minto is sixth at 32-32.
The remaining teams with their records are: Chipman/Grand Lake 30-34, Main Street Bowl-a-drome of Fredericton 30-34, Sackville 18-46, Cap-Pelé 14-50 and Woodstock No. 2 at 0-64.
Lee Nelson of Sussex leads the average race with a 122,58. He's followed by Kevin Bernard of Sussex (120.96) and Dave Halfyard of Little's Lumber (119.25.
The top singles rolled so far in the tourney are Kevin Bernard of Sussex (168), Durrell Godsoe of Saint John (167) and Gary Johnston of Woodstock No. 1 (165).
Lee Nelson of Sussex has the tourney top triple of 432. He's folowed by Jim Kiervin of Saint John (420) and Steve Williston of Riverview Parklanes (418).
The high team single is held by Saint John with a 676. Woodstock No. 1 is next at 673 while Little's Lumber is third at 637.
The high team triple of 1,883 is also held by Saint John. Second spot is held by Woodstock No. 1 (1,833) while third is Little's Lumber (1,823).
