Harness racing season kicks off

SUMMERSIDE - The Summerside Raceway will be the scene of some of the finest harness racing in the Atlantic Region starting today.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes begins at the Summerside, P.E.I. raceway with two- and three-year-old horses meeting on track for the first time this season, and continues throughout Lobster Carnival Week celebrations.

On Tuesday, the spotlight will be on two-year-old pacing fillies while on Wednesday, it's the colts' turn to shine.

Thursday will see three-year-old fillies compete and Saturday, July 12, the three-year-old colts take to the track.

A full slate of Atlantic Sires Stakes races will he held at seven racetracks in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island this year with purse money expected to top $1 million by the season finale, the Atlantic Breeders Crown Championships in October which will take place this year at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
